ONE AFTERNOON BEGINNERS SCREEN PRINTING

This is an introductory screen printing course suitable for beginners. You will design your own image and produce a 2 layer screen print working with hand made stencils using paper cut outs, ink or UV resistant marker pens. These will be exposed onto a screen using UV light. You will learn how to coat a screen, prepare your colours and register your prints and will take home an edition of 8, 2-colour prints.

Limited to 4 participants

Cost: 65 Euros (including VAT) All materials included
Time:1pm- 5pm
Date: Saturday 23rd November
Saturday 7th December

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black) – an old-school printing term, that refers to the key plate which brings the most detail to the image. These are the colours you find inside your printer cartridges, and they make up all the imagery you see in magazines composed of halftone dots. Come and unlock the secrets of halftone printing with this weekend course.

This workshop is ideal for photographers or anyone interested in producing photographs using an alternative process. A week before the start of the course you will email a high-resolution photograph up to A3 size so that your films are ready when you arrive. During the workshop, you will learn how to split an image into four channels (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) using Photoshop and convert these to halftone dots ready for printing. You will also learn how to coat and expose a screen, and over the course of the weekend, you will build up your four-channel layers using a registration technique into a single print. You will take home an edition of 8 prints.

Limited to 4 participants.

Cost: €170 (including VAT) Includes all materials and the production of the four-colour separation films.
Time: Saturday 11 am – 4 pm, Sunday 11 am – 4 pm. (We will take a break for lunch around 1:30 pm for 45 minutes).
Dates: No dates currently scheduled, please send an email if you are interested in this workshop

ONE AFTERNOON MONOPRINTING

This workshop is suitable for all levels. It may be of particular interest to illustrators and painters who want to express themselves directly onto the screen, with instant, spontaneous mark making without the need for separate layers and stencils. The word mono refers to the print being a ‘one off’ and unrepeatable unlike the other types of screen print. It is a unique process, no stencil is required, so we won't be working with the UV exposure unit. Paint is applied directly onto the screen and then pulled through with a medium and a squeegee onto the paper. The result is really beautiful as it picks up on the texture and expression of the brush strokes but reproduces this in a totally smooth and flat way which you could never achieve by painting directly onto paper. It is also possible to block out parts of the screen and bring in a stencil element if you wish! You will take away several pieces of work, the number depending on the pace at which you work.

Limited to 5 participants

Cost: 55 Euros (including VAT) All materials included.
Time: 2pm - 5pm
Date: Saturday 30th November
